As part of the Education for Peace III project funded by the European Commission and supported by the Association of Historical Dialogue and Research, POST Research Institute (POST RI) is delighted to invite you to a guided journey into the culture of Famagusta- past and present.  The tour will be POST RI’s third study tours, following tours of Nicosia and Kyrenia.

This tour aims at introducing participants with Famagusta’s old buildings and beautiful ancient churches from a different angle; exploring how the now “ghost city” of Varosha used to be an vibrant neighbourhood until 1974; and providing an opportunity for children, parents, teachers, educators and history lovers to enjoy the Famagusta Children’s Festival to be held on the same day in the city centre!

Programme for the day:

09.15: Participants meet at Ledra Palace checkpoint – northern part of Nicosia.

09.30: Coach departs. (Please note that the coach will leave promptly at 09.30am).

Part 1: Visiting no man’s land: Varosha

10.30 – 11.30: Visiting the neighbourhood of Varosha and exploring the vibrant life of Varosha in past times.

Part 2: Exploring historical sites of Famagusta

11.45 – 13.30: Journey into ancient Famagusta, walking on the dikes and exploring historical sites within the walled city.

Part 3: Festival Time – Enjoying traditional customs of Famagusta at the Spring Festival in the City Centre

13:30- 15:30: Sample traditional food from selected Cyprus cuisine, enjoy folk-arts’, handcrafts and traditional dance, watching slide shows of old Famagusta, experiencing a carnival for children and many other surprises!

15.40: Departure from Famagusta

16.30: Arrive at Nicosia
