POST Research Institute (POST RI) with the support of the Association for Historical Dialogue & Research (AHDR) is hosting a 2-Day Teacher Training Workshop on “Learning different histories – Discussing Alternative Approaches”.

The workshop will take place on Friday 19 March and Saturday 20 March at Ledra Palace Hotel, Nicosia. Proceedings will begin at 16.00 on Friday and will end at 17.30 on Saturday.

The event is being organised under the Education for Peace III project, funded by the European Commission and implemented by POST RI.

The event will commence on Friday 19 March with a seminar involving various presentations by international experts and discussions co-coordinated by Cypriot experts from across the divide which will offer participants a fascinating insight into alternative approaches to teaching. Saturday will involve 3 consecutive parallel workshops, designed in an interactive way, in order to offer Cypriot teachers with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of pedagogical approaches to history teaching as well as the opportunity to touch on more sensitive issues of history teaching

The workshops will be facilitated by international experts from Israel, the UK and the US. The working language of the seminar and workshops will be in English, however Greek and Turkish interpretation will be provided.

POST RI believes that peace can be sustained through education. This is based on research that has shown that education plays a crucial role in establishing long-term peace and reconciliation after an ethnic conflict occurs. To this end, POST RI has conducted projects on “Education for Peace” since 2004. The overall objective of the Education for Peace III project is to promote reconciliation, multi-culturalism and dialogue in Cyprus, by improving the quality of history education taught in schools. Moreover, the project aims to create an awareness regarding peace education in Cyprus, in order to contribute to debates regarding the current curricula.

POST Araştırma Enstitüsü, tarih kitapları analizi ile ilgili bulgularını ara bölgedeki Goethe Enstitüsü’nde 4 Mart, Perşembe günü saat 12′de bir basın toplantısı yaparak açıkladı.

POST Araştırma Enstitüsü (POST RI), araştırmacılarının geniş kapsamlı çalışmaları sonucunda Kıbrıs’ın Kuzey’inde okutulan Kıbrıs Tarihi ders kitapları analizini, son dönemdeki gelişmeleri ve kitaplar üzerindeki siyasi yansımalarla ile ilgili yeni bulgularını basınla paylaştı.

Mehveş Beyidoğlu Önen’in açılış konuşması ile başlayan toplantı Akademisyen Dilek Latif’in yapılan araştırmanın sunumunu gerçekleştirmesi ile devam etti.
